NFTS Celebrate 15-Year Reign on The Hollywood Reporter’s Best Film Schools List
The National Film and Television School (NFTS) is thrilled to once again feature in The Hollywood Reporter’s prestigious list of the 15 best international film schools for an incredible 15th consecutive year, a landmark moment that reflects our enduring impact on the screen industries and a forward-looking approach to storytelling and innovation.
From award-winning student films to transformative training initiatives, the NFTS has consistently set the benchmark for excellence in film, television, games, and beyond. Our continued presence on this globally respected list is a testament to the talent, ambition, and creativity of our students, staff, and alumni.
In its 2025 edition, The Hollywood Reporter spotlighted the School’s most recent successes that are helping shape the future of the screen industries.
“NFTS highlights from the last year include a £10 million government commitment to expand its historic campus, four NFTS alumni nominated at this year's Oscars and a history-making Cannes Film Festival world premiere of Ether - the only time a first-year student has secured a debut on the Croisette.”
The NFTS and the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) are the only two institutions to have been consistently ranked by The Hollywood Reporter over the past 15 years. Other international schools featured in this year's list include Vancouver Film School, Korean Academy of Film Arts and Spain’s ECAM.
Recent accomplishments continue to highlight the School’s global impact. NFTS graduate work has garnered major awards and festival accolades, including a BAFTA Best Short Film win for Rock, Paper, Scissors earlier this year, as well as ground-breaking course launches in AI for film and television and a strategic partnership with YouTube to support digital creators.
Underscoring its reputation as a world-leading institution, the NFTS was recently awarded £10 million in UK Government funding, forming a key part of its Industrial Strategy. This investment will support the School’s ambitious £21 million expansion of its historic Beaconsfield Studios campus, ensuring it continues to deliver best-in-class training and facilities for future generations of filmmakers, game developers and screen professionals.
As one of the few film schools with its own in-house studios and production facilities, and with unmatched industry partnerships, the NFTS continues to equip students with the tools, insight and hands-on experience needed to lead and transform the screen sectors.
NFTS Director Jon Wardle commented: “To be recognised by The Hollywood Reporter for 15 consecutive years speaks volumes about the creativity, ambition and resilience of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the strength of our industry partnerships. At NFTS, we’re not only preparing students for the industry as it is, we’re helping them shape what it will become. This recognition is a powerful reminder of the global impact the School continues to make.”
As the NFTS celebrates this 15-year milestone, it remains focused on championing bold voices, nurturing creative excellence, and empowering the next generation of storytellers to thrive in an ever-evolving industry.
