NFTS Scotland Expands Entry Level Screen Pathways Programme
NFTS Scotland is expanding its Screen Craft and Screen Production Pathways training programmes to give new and early entrants the hands-on skills, technical understanding, and on-set insight needed to confidently step into a role working as a trainee behind the scenes in film and television.
Delivered by the National Film and Television School (NFTS) hub based in Edinburgh, in partnership with the NFTS Sean Connery Talent Lab and supported by the Sean Connery Foundation and Screen Scotland, the Screen Craft Pathways and Screen Production Pathways combine practical training, mentoring, and on-set experience.
With fees subsidised by the Sean Connery Foundation, who support the NFTS Sean Connery Talent Lab, and Screen Scotland who support the new Location Intern pathway, courses also provide an opportunity to work on one of the Lab’s prestigious short films, which are funded by BBC Film and will be shooting in Central Scotland in late September and October 2026, with the Screen Production Pathways providing paid, mentored placements within the slate of films.
The films made by the first cohort of the Sean Connery Talent Lab premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2025 and are set to screen on BBC iPlayer soon. This is a unique opportunity for participants to work on a high calibre production as well as enhance their networks by meeting and developing relationships with the Lab’s creative teams.
The courses will be delivered across venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow, with travel to sets within Central Scotland also required.
