Many of us have anxieties about pitching our ideas to other people - whether it’s to colleagues in a development team, company execs, potential contributors, talent agents, or commissioning editors at channels. It’s understandable when the stakes can be high.
But being able to pitch your ideas confidently, clearly, and persuasively is a key skill, whether you’re a developer or producer.
This course takes you from raw concept to pitch in 2 days.
It explores what makes a good pitch and – through a series of workshops in a friendly and inclusive atmosphere – helps you discover your ‘inner pitcher’.
Students are expected to participate fully in the workshops.
Course leader: Simon Broadley has worked in Development for broadcasters including BBC, ITV, STV, IMG, LWT and Sky Vision and for indies including September Films and Hotbed Media. For the past 9 years, Simon has also been the Course Leader for the NFTS Factual Development & Production Diploma, a year-long, part-time course sponsored by Discovery.
Over the 2 days the course aims to:
• Build your confidence through a series of inventive pitching challenges
• Demystify the process of pitching TV ideas
• Discuss real-life examples of successful pitches
• Explain how to prepare for your pitch – research, materials etc.
• Help you focus on the key selling points of your idea
• Share practical dos and don’ts
• Discuss how to achieve a positive outcome and follow-up
