Delivered over 8 weeks (1 evening a week), participants will complete the screenplay for a short film through discussion and revision in the context of an online and supportive ‘Writers Room’
Key successful shorts will be analysed including visits from their directors. Included will be a session on pitching your idea, a crucial skill to acquire in our industry today.
We will ask:
- What makes a great a short film?
- How will your idea stand out among the competition?
- What is original about your script, and its appeal to the audience?
The course is led by Peter Ansorge, ex-Head of Drama at Channel 4 whose award-winning career includes: A Very British Coup, Traffik, GBH, The Politician’s Wife, The Camomile Lawn, Dance To The Music of Time and the Peabody-winning adaptation of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City.
With the National Film and TV School, Peter commissioned two seasons of short films written for the ground-breaking Diverse Directors Workshop, sponsored and financed by Barbara Broccoli from EON.
Several of the shorts were shortlisted for a BAFTA shorts awards and screened at the BFI London Film Festival(2018) including ALICE SEABRIGHT (‘Sex Ed’), ANNNETA LAUFER (‘The Arrival’) and BIM AJADI (‘The First Time’)
- Participants will arrive with an idea for a short film
- After each session our writers will write further pages of their scripts to be read aloud and discussed the following week
- Your fellow writers will be the first audience to hear your idea and support it throughout its development and completion
All discussion and practice of the work will take place in the atmosphere of our creative and supportive online Writers Room.
