Delivered over eight weeks’ participants will complete the screenplay for a short film through discussion and revision in the context of an online and supportive ‘Writers’ Room.’

Participants will arrive with an idea for a short film. After each session our writers will write further pages of their scripts to be read aloud and discussed on the following Tuesday.  Your fellow writers will be the first audience to hear your idea and support it throughout its development and completion.

We will ask: what makes a great a short film? Key successful shorts will be analysed including visits from their directors. Included will be a session on pitching your idea, a crucial skill to acquire in our industry today. How will your idea stand out among the competition? What is original about your script, and its appeal to the audience.

The course is led by PETER ANSORGE, ex-Head of Drama at Channel 4 whose award-winning career includes: A Very British Coup, Traffik, GBH, The Politician’s Wife, The Camomile Lawn, Dance To The Music of Time and the Peabody-winning adaptation of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City. Several of the scripts completed on Peter’s established ‘Writing the Pilot’ course at NFTS Beaconsfield and NFTS Scotland are currently in development with leading UK Independents.

For the NFTS Peter commissioned two seasons of short films written for the ground-breaking Diverse Directors Workshop, sponsored and financed by Barbara Broccoli from EON, producer of the Bond movies. Several of the directors of the shorts commissioned by Peter were shortlisted for a BAFTA shorts awards and screened at the BFI London Film Festival(2018) including ALICE SEABRIGHT (‘Sex Ed’), ANNNETA LAUFER (‘The Arrival’) and BIM AJADI (‘The Break’).

All discussion and practice of the work will take place in the atmosphere of our creative and supportive online Writer’s Room.
