NFTS Cymru Wales: Directing Actors for Screen

Short course

Overview

This course will be delivered face to face.

This one day course will teach you how to create an environment in which your actors can be relaxed and confident and able to deliver a naturalistic performance for screen. Taking the form of an exploratory workshop, the day will comprise working with two actors and will be fully participatory for the whole group. With the emphasis on having fun in a safe space, the day will include games and exercises while also giving you the tools and language you need for working with actors. The day will culminate in each participant directing a performance from the actors.

About the tutor: Lesley Manning is a freelance director and co Head of Fiction at the NFTS. Having trained at the NFTS herself, she started her directing career at the BBC working on films and serials, one of which was the cult hit Ghostwatch – the highest rated single drama for fifty years. Her feature length drama Honeycomb Lodge won Best Film at the Delhi International Film Festival. More recently her film Curtain Call won Best Short Film at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.
