This course aims to introduce learners to various digital design tools available to designers today.
It will illustrate the leading digital design tools like Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCad, sketchup, and general use of AI technology with engaging discussions aimed at empowering learners to translate their creative vision into digital prototypes.
The tutor will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of digital design tools and help learners decide which ones to start using.
Self-led work and conversations will be injected with inspiring lecture and presentations. AI image generation will be incorporated in the design process and critically interrogated.
Ma Ka Ming (a.k.a. Gene) is a passionate production designer with over 10 years of experience, specializing in film, TV series, and theatre productions. He oversees the Art Department team and manages projects from concept design, presentation, construction planning and final execution.
His role as the lead Production Designer for EXIMO, a 2024 Sci Fi short film in UK, he created a unique, futuristic design for both sets and costumes. Notably, he won the best Production Design Award at Venice Under the Stars International Film Festival.
Beyond film, he showcased his creative talents at the 2022 Hong Kong Technical Art Festival with his original play "Five Guys", which explored the intricate relationship between Mandola and the natural world. Furthermore, Gene collaborated with renowned German director Pan To Yan on the highly successful VR immersive play,
"A Haunted VR Conference" in 2023.
His expertise also extends to spatial design. His role as the Artistic Director for Team Wang “Standards” concept space in China. He was responsible for the interior decoration, including 6 distinct artworks and digital art.
Gene is also renowned as a miniature artist for his scale models of film sets, reflecting his deep passion for handcrafting and creative video production. His talent was acknowledged as a featured artist in the 'Impressions' exhibition, curated by The Holy Art Gallery in London in 2023.
