At its core, Stories in Sound is a hands-on storytelling workshop that uses sound not as an end, but as a powerful tool to shape meaning, emotion, and human connection in film.
Participants step into the collaborative roles of director and dubbing mixer, working together to craft the emotional and narrative arc of a short film. Using a curated palette of atmospheric sounds and music, the group experiments with how sound can shift tone, deepen meaning, or even transform a viewer’s interpretation entirely.
Led by an experienced sound tutor, the workshop guides participants through the layers of a film’s sonic world—its textures, rhythms, and emotional tones. Through real-time experimentation and discussion, they explore how sound breathes life into images, anchors emotion, and builds tension.
Participants discover how effortlessly they can create both objective and subjective spaces with just a few movements of the faders, inviting the audience to move through these spaces alongside the characters.
This is not just a technical exercise, but a creative investigation into how audiences feel story. The session reveals the intricate interplay between sound, cinematography, performance, editing, and design—uncovering how these elements together create a unified cinematic experience.
Participants leave with a heightened sensitivity to the role of sound in storytelling, and a deeper understanding of how it can elevate every aspect of a film.
This is more than a technical exercise; it’s a creative exploration of how sound and images combine to bring stories to life. By the end, participants leave with a sharper ear and a deeper appreciation for the power of sound in storytelling
This workshop is valuable for a wide range of people, not just those working in sound design or post-production.
