Join award winning producers, Ciara Barry and Rosie Crerar of Glasgow-based production company barry crerar as they step you though the independent film producing journey in a series of six two-day courses. The courses are grounded in their experience of producing contemporary, critically acclaimed films from and about Scotland, combined with their distinct understanding of the Scottish, UK and international film landscape.
Participants have the option to either apply for specific courses individually or submit an application for all six courses.
Course 1: Creative Producing
Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th September 2026
Filmmaking is a creatively collaborative process. In this module we will demystify the role of the producer as a creative entity. Encouraging you to develop your voice as a creative producer through the origination, nurturing and development of ideas and stories. Identifying and building strong relationships with writers is fundamental to this process, we will interrogate the skills and experience required to work with and support writers, directors and the wider creative team
Course 2: Physical Production
Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th October 2026
The nuts and bolts of production across both shorts and feature films. Maintaining the overview of the production alongside the responsibilities to crew, protecting the creative vision, keeping on top of the budget and meeting the financiers expectations from prep through to production, post production and delivery.
Course 3: Demystifying Film Financing
Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th November 2026
Building relationships with financiers and recognising trends in the market place is key to the role of an independent film producer. We will step you through finance strategies and plans for financing low budget feature films, looking at approaches as a majority producer alongside minority partner on a UK or international co-production.
Course 4: Business of Producing
Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th December 2026
Learning how to manage and maintain your company and core team alongside the multiple projects on your slate is crucial to the long term sustainability of an independent producer and production company. We will talk through the challenges of building a sustainable career whilst juggling so many variables
Course 5: Building Your Brand
Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th January 2027
Defining and building your unique IP as a film production company in a crowded market place.
Course 6: Audience & Market Awareness
Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd February 2027
Finding and connecting with audiences is the ultimate aim of making films, yet so many of us struggle to achieve this in a crowded market place. Developing your understanding of audiences from the inception of projects is crucial to your role as a filmmaker. We will explore relationships and strategies of partners as they take your film to it’s audience in documentary and fiction filmmaking.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however it is expected that you have a good standard of written and spoken English and a passion for film & TV.
