Final Draft is the world’s leading script writing software, used by 95% of productions in Hollywood and also the industry standard software here in Europe. It works on Mac and PC.
This one-day course is suitable for writers; script editors working with the writer to develop the final script; for script department personnel keeping across drafts and rewrites; and for ADs moving material quickly from the script to their shooting schedule in MMS.
Course Tutor Dewi Griffith has trained film and TV professionals worldwide for over twenty years in Final Draft, Movie Magic Scheduling and Budgeting.
As well as the NFTS Dewi has trained for Sargent Disc, Moviesoft, Entertainment Partners in Europe and the US, at a number of academic and industrial organisations such as Screen Skills, BECTU, Sgil Cymru, Grand Scheme Media and Crew West Ireland; and for companies such as as Netflix, Amazon, Working Title, Element, BBC Wales, BBC Scotland, Fulwell 73, Lookout Point, MBC Dubai not forgetting a myriad of freelancers across the UK, Europe, The Middle East and North America.
Writers will learn to:
• Set Up the software to save your ongoing drafts
• Choose the best template for your script
• Import work from another programme like MS Word into FD
• Plan using The Beat Board and Index Cards to create your story
• Write swiftly and intuitively as the software hierarchy of script elements, learns your characters, locations and pre-empts your decisions
• Create a Title Page
• Use the Navigator to track character arcs
• Collaborating in real time with co-writers (or script editors)
• Understanding and using Reports to analyse your writing and find story issues
• Getting your script read to present professionally to a Producer or Script Editor
Producers and Script Editors will learn to:
• Track character and story arcs using Navigator
• Create Script Notes to discuss issues with the writer
• Understand the reports generated within FD
• Create Inclusivity Analysis (Diversity) Reports
• Creating a template for your show for the writing team
Script Department will learn to:
• Set up Revisions including coloured pages
• Colour code scripts for casting and read throughs
• Document management – scene numbering, headers and footers
• Locking Pages
• Printing scripts, revisions and sides (including in pdf - coloured pages)
Assistant Directors will learn to
• Export script files into Movie Magic Scheduling for breaking down
• Also ‘tagging’ script elements on a scene-by-scene basis to export into Movie Magic Scheduling with most of the breaking down done in FD13
