The runner role is the foundation of many careers in TV and film, offering a first step into the industry and a critical understanding of how productions operate. This session provides a practical, detailed overview of the different types of runner positions across departments, the skills needed to perform the role effectively, and what to expect when starting out on set or in production offices.
You’ll also learn about essential protocols including professional etiquette, and how to use soft skills to make a strong impression from day one.
Course Tutor:
Led by Samina Kiyani, a freelance professional with over 30 years of experience across TV, film, journalism, and media training. Samina worked as a Floor Manager and First Assistant Director on major productions such as Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Big Brother, The Big Breakfast, MTV, and commercials for brands like Kellogg’s, Schwarzkopf, and Skittles. She later worked as a TV Producer and Broadcast Journalist.
Drawing on her wide-ranging experience, Samina offers practical, real-world insights into making the most of early career opportunities.
