Running a shoot requires far more than logistics, it demands clarity, confidence, communication, and the ability to lead people through pressure, change, and creative ambition.
This session is designed for emerging producers, coordinators stepping up, and anyone preparing to run their own shoots or move into leadership roles.
Carly Stone began her production career over 25 years ago, working her way up through roles across commercial production, film, TV, stills, and branded content. She later co‑founded Madam Films, a female‑led production service company delivering shoots for global brands and international directors.
Throughout her career, Carly has led teams through complex, fast‑moving productions and supported emerging producers and coordinators as they step into leadership roles.
She now runs Planet Positive Production, working with agencies, brands, and production teams while contributing to industry initiatives that strengthen culture, wellbeing, and sustainable practice.
Through real production case studies and lived experience, we’ll explore the behaviours, judgement calls, and leadership habits that shape successful shoots. The focus is on practical, human‑centred leadership: how to build trust, delegate effectively, make decisions under pressure, and create working environments where people can do their best work.
We'll review:
- Building your network — how to find the right people, maintain relationships, and become someone crews want to work with
- Delegation as a leadership skill — communicating expectations, empowering others, avoiding micromanagement, and shifting from “doer” to “leader”
- Financial judgement on a shoot — when to spend, when to save, and how to justify decisions
- Attention to detail — the small habits that prevent big problems
- Mentoring and supporting others — guiding juniors, modelling behaviour, and building team culture
- Accountability — building trust, credibility, and long‑term client relationships
- Real‑world case studies — analysing common challenges and exploring how different leadership choices shape outcomes
Open to emerging producers, coordinators, and anyone preparing to take on greater responsibility in production. No prior leadership training is required, just curiosity and a desire to grow.
