This course is designed for those who are taking their first steps into feature film production and need an understanding of the responsibilities of the Producer. With a particular focus on how the Producer secures finance for the project, the course will also include an overview of developing and selecting projects, budgeting and how to successfully package your project.
Over 2 days, tutor Jack Tarling will help you understand the wide range of skills the role covers and share his own experience as a successful Producer of award-winning films.
• The key responsibilities of the Producer from start to finish
• Selecting and developing the right projects
• Creating a budget for your film
• Understanding whether your film will be of interest to investors; their priorities and expectations
• Different types of finance available: equity, pre-sales and gap financing
• Sales agents – researching them and finding out who is right for a project, and why
• Co-production and international deals

A limited number of bursaries are available for all of our short courses. If you wish to apply for a bursary to contribute to the costs of your course, please read the bursary guidelines below carefully to confirm your eligibility. Please do not apply to a course unless you are sure you meet the bursary eligibility criteria, or if you are able to pay for the course by other means.
Please apply as far in advance of the course date as possible to give yourself the best chance of securing a supported place as we may not be able to accommodate all applications. We aim to advise successful applicants no later than 10 working days prior to the course start date.
