Screen Yorkshire and the National Film and Television School (NFTS) today announce five new training courses that will provide students with the first industry-recognised UK craft certificates for film and TV.
In recognition of the enormous contribution Nik made to the development of new talent and his passionate support of new filmmakers and voices, the Nik Powell Scholarship will support emerging producers in the early stages of their career to attend the NFTS, a School he helped shape into one of the best film schools in the world and which he loved dearly.

Jonny Mutch recently graduated from the NFTS Sports Production Diploma and is now working at IMG, a global leader in sport production as an Assistant Producer for Golfing World.
11 NFTS graduates have been nominated for the RTS Craft and Design Awards 2019 across seven categories. The awards celebrate excellence in broadcast television and aim to recognise the huge variety of skills and process involved in programme production.
The recent NFTS ‘Diverse Directors Workshop’ was a resounding success, with key players from the film and television industry attending a packed showcase event to preview the short films made by five of this year’s talented Directors.
It is with great sadness that the NFTS announces the death of our former Director and friend Nik Powell. He loved the School deeply and was incredibly proud of every one of our graduates. Nik leaves a lasting legacy and will be missed by us all.

After a jam packed screening of The Day Shall Come attended by students from across the NFTS, actor, writer, famed satirist and Director Chris Morris dropped in for a Masterclass and Q&A session hosted by NFTS Director Jon Wardle.
Ahead of its recent UK cinema release, NFTS students were treated to an exclusive preview of A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon. This was followed by a Q&A with Co-Director and NFTS Directing Animation graduate, Richard Phelan – who has just been nominated for a British Independent Film Award (BIFA) for Best Debut Director.
