100% hands on practice – using the current 16mm and 35mm camera systems.


Please bring a torch, scissors and common sense!

You will be shown loading, lacing, maintenance and assembly of accessories for each camera system.

Subjects covered in discussion are, testing and preparation of equipment, roles of 2nd and 1st Assistants - visit to rental house to demonstrate lens testing, collimation and camera steady test.

This consistantly sold-out 5-day course is taught by freelance technicians and is supported by Panavision and is designed to de-mystify camera systems and to teach how to use the equipment sensibly, knowledgeably (and with respect).

The freelance rate for this course is subsidised by ScreenSkills with support from the BFI, awarding National Lottery funds as part of its Future Film Skills strategy; as part of work to diversify the screen industry workforce, this year there is also a further reduction in fees of up to 50% available for freelancers with disabilities and/or who are from black, Asian or minority ethnic groups - further details of which will be provided upon acceptance on the training
