Short films take an audience on a journey that changes how they feel in a matter of minutes. Whether joyous, ridiculous, horrifying or heart-warming a good short creates a lasting impact in the shortest of times.
If you’re hoping to launch your career or want to delve deeper into an unfamiliar theme, this course will help you to generate, shape and deliver a short film script. From first thought to revised draft, this blended course combines in person with online and regular one-to-one sessions plus guest speakers.
You will have a written a revised short film script by the end of the course.

Paul Fraser is a multi-award-winning writer and director with a career spanning three decades. He has collaborated extensively with his childhood friend Shane Meadows, whose career were launched from a large body of short films. Paul directorial debut was the short “SCUMMY MAN” for the Arctic Monkeys.
His latest feature film Saipan, starring Steve Coogan, was released in January 2026.
What you’ll study:
Over the course of four weeks, we will cover the following areas:
- Idea Generation.
- The shapes of shorts.
- Build scenes and stories.
- Your voice and the stories you tell.
- How to outline, beat-sheet and write your draft.
- Dealing with notes and revising your draft.
The course will run over four weeks, with a full in-person day to start, 3 hour weekly sessions and 1-1s with the course leader. See attached outline for more detailed session information.
